LIFE OF A BLANK CASSETTE TAPE – A Nostalgic Stage Journey

What is the life of the cassette, has it died a sudden death? Does anyone still play these obscure objects? Who has preserved their tape selection? In the grand scheme of things, we can agree that the life of the cassette usually starts out as a ‘blank tape’ Rewind with us and relive the magic!

Join us Upstairs at The Ritzy, Brixton for a heartwarming, funny, and nostalgic evening of short play clips inspired by the unforgettable Life of Cassette Tapes.

From the thrill of tearing off the plastic wrap of a brand-new blank cassette, to carefully crafting the perfect mixtape for a friend (or a secret crush!), these short performances will take you back to a time when music was tangible, personal, and full of character.

Stories of friendship, teenage rebellion, and love notes in magnetic tape form. What it boils down to is that our connection with the cassette tape is highly personal. If the tape gets tangled or jagged, we spend precious time trying to repair it with scissors, sticky tape and pens. It’s like no other, a unique relationship. I would even go as far as to say that it is a connection, stronger than the one that we have to the CD.

A celebration of brands, lengths, and the joy they brought — from Sony to TDK, 60 minutes to 120 minutes.

Plenty of laughter, nods of recognition, and maybe a few happy tears.

Our actors Kai Gama, Tanjiana Bryan-Hesse and Nathan Lawanga are professional’s who’re enthusiastic about this play, and are ready to bring the magic of the Cassette Tape to life.
